INTRODUCING HELEN JANE LONG THE WOMAN BEHIND THE MUSIC You may not have heard her name before, but chances are you will have heard her music…. Helen Jane Long’s sound has probably found its way into your consciousness, either in the comfort of your own home through the VW Passat commercial and Galaxy chocolate advert, or on the big screen via her work assisting Howard Shore on the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. One of the very few young successful British female composers, Helen Jane Long is an unsung hero of film and TV music. Her style is fresh, inspiring, and totally individual and for the first time ever, a collection of her works will be released on one album. Porcelain is an evocative collection of original compositions which weaves through the worlds of classical, chill out and filmic music, to create an indefinable collection of musical minimalism. Transporting the listener into another world, her music lifts and soothes the soul. A classically trained musician, Helen learnt the piano from the age of 4. She soon graduated to other instruments, excelling at the clarinet, cello and singing. It wasn’t until university, after feeling increasingly frustrated with her institutionalised music training, that Helen began composing, and over time she taught herself to record, produce, score, arrange, and mix her own music in a self-built home studio. Helen has an ever increasing online fan base and receives messages of support from people across the world from urban music fans through to housewives, city boys, teenagers and their grandparents. This phenomenal response is evident on her MySpace site, and eventually provoked Helen to send a demo CD of her music, in a tin can, to various record companies – she was signed almost instantly.
